ABOUT THIS SPECIES

Geosesarma dennerle is a small, land-focused freshwater crab from forested habitats in Central Java. In the trade it’s known for its vivid “vampire” look, dark body tones contrasted by bright eyes and coloured claws. They spend most of their time in the leaf litter and among roots and rocks, emerging more confidently at dusk and overnight to forage.

Expect a lot of hiding, burrowing, and climbing; dense planting and plenty of tight cover usually make them far more visible.

Despite the aquatic association, they do best with a habitat that prioritises land space and humidity, with water provided as a shallow area for drinking and dipping rather than a deep aquarium.
