ABOUT THIS SPECIES

Gonocephalus chameleontinus, commonly known as the Chameleon Forest Dragon, is an arboreal agamid lizard inhabiting tropical rainforests of Borneo, Sumatra and nearby islands. Its common name refers to its ability to display subtle colour changes, which helps it blend into forest vegetation and tree trunks.

This species has a triangular head with a prominent crest and spiny scales, and its body is usually green or brown with patterns that break up its outline. It spends much of the day perched vertically on branches, remaining motionless while ambushing insects.

Diurnal and primarily insectivorous, Chameleon Forest Dragons rely on tall, planted enclosures with vertical climbing surfaces and hiding spots to replicate their natural forest environment. Maintaining high humidity and providing dense foliage encourages natural behaviours and activity.
