ABOUT THIS SPECIES

Bronchocela jubata, known as the Maned Forest Lizard, is a slender, arboreal agamid native to the forests of Java, Sumatra, Bali and nearby islands. It is named for the prominent mane-like crest along its neck and back, which is most pronounced in males.

This species exhibits bright green to brownish colouration with occasional darker markings, allowing it to blend into leaves and thin branches. It is highly arboreal, spending much of its time moving slowly along slender branches and foliage while hunting insects.

Maned Forest Lizards are diurnal and rely on vertical space and dense planting in captivity to replicate their natural environment. Providing tall enclosures, climbing structures and regular misting supports their arboreal habits and natural behaviours.
