ABOUT THIS SPECIES

Boiga dendrophila, is a large, slender, and primarily arboreal colubrid native to mangrove forests, lowland rainforests, and swampy habitats in Southeast Asia. Its glossy black coloration accented with yellow bands. 

This species is nocturnal and hunts a variety of small vertebrates, including rodents, birds, and lizards. Its prehensile tail and climbing ability make it highly agile in trees and dense vegetation.

In captivity, Black Mangrove Snakes require tall, secure enclosures with plenty of climbing opportunities, hides, and access to water. Providing appropriate temperature, moderate humidity, and a diet of suitably sized prey supports healthy growth, natural behaviour, and overall activity.
