Przewalski’s Wonder Gecko is a small desert gecko distinguished by its large, plate-like scales and soft, velvety appearance. Colouration is typically sandy to pale yellow with darker cross-banding, providing effective camouflage against desert substrates. The tail is relatively thick and may detach if threatened.
Native to arid deserts and semi-desert regions of northern China and Mongolia, this species is strongly fossorial, constructing burrows in loose sand to escape temperature extremes. It is primarily nocturnal, emerging after dusk to forage for insects. In captivity, deep, dry substrate and secure hides are essential to encourage natural burrowing behaviour. A well-ventilated setup that maintains low humidity reflects the dry conditions of its native habitat.
