ABOUT THIS SPECIES

The “Leacude” vampire crab is a trade colour label for Geosesarma dennerle, one of the best-known land-leaning freshwater crabs in the hobby.

They’re most at home in humid, heavily structured paludaria where they can move through leaf litter, plant roots and tight hides, then climb hardscape when they feel secure. Activity is typically strongest from late afternoon into the evening, with steady foraging rather than long periods in open view.

Although they need access to freshwater, they generally use it for drinking and dipping (and sometimes during moults) rather than living fully aquatic. 

Dense cover and a secure lid make a big difference to how confident they appear.
